Carey was once a popular fashion model. She is 5'10" tall and was sought-after by the top American designers, such as Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren as well as others. Her father, who was a renowned scientist, who was awarded the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists' 1979 Scientist of the Year award is a highly respected scientist. As a result of his professional career Carey was raised all over the globe. When she was a student at an institution called the University of Colorado, Carey started modeling for a side. A representative of Ford Model Agency located in New York noticed her and was willing to assist. She stayed in France briefly, in Paris as well as Bordeaux. She then returned to New York for her college studies and to further develop her modeling career. She attended full-time classes at New York University, obtaining her degree in literature while working on modeling assignments. In time, she began to become interested in acting, and began studying at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York. Her first acting experience was in as a character alongside Robin Williams in the 1986 film 'Club Paradise. Her hobbies include doing white-water rafting, skiing, rock climbing, and wind-surfing.
